Potato Head SG: Burgers

Burgers. I've always loved a good burger. Juicy ones! Plus I love ketchup, which is a match made in heaven. 

So for this Friday's lunch, Guy decided to go to Potato Head's burger joint. 

Such a quaint place. Always loved the art of their interiors. Bali was still the best. But the one here in Singapore was cool as well - very hipster and avant-garde. 

 

Walls were filled with quirky hand-painted  designs - my favorite was the Pinocchio one with the 2 characters in pleasure island. And somehow all the furnitures and accessories don't belong with each other but matches in a way. Organized chaos. 

Menu was quite sharp and simple. Just burgers and a hotdog. And choice of sides. 

I got the Baby Huey. And I really enjoyed it - which is their standard cheese burger. First time that I didn't load up my burger with ketchup! So that's a good sign! Oh and this place makes their own homemade ketchup and chili. I still like the bottled one better, but what they have is tasty as well. 

Serving portion is for a regular guy. Couldn't finish mine. But it was delish. Loved the caramelized onion too!

Closed the meal with a cup of latte. I like how  they pay attention to details - the diagonally angled spoon against the folded serviette. Shows how they planned out everything. 

9/10 for me. :)

Search for the best Chirashidon

Chirashizushi (ちらし寿司, "scattered sushi") is a bowl of sushi rice topped with a variety of sashimi and garnishes. There is no set formula for the ingredients; they are either chef's choice or specified by the customer. It is commonly eaten because it is filling, fast and easy to make. Chirashizushi often varies regionally. (got this from Wiki)

I like to try different kinds of sashimi thus the chirashi don works well for me. I will be listing down some of the ones i tried for the past month. (in no particular order)

1. Omakase at Greenhills- Php 330 Sgd 10
After my usual Ton Ton's Annapolis massage last week, my dad, sister and I decided to have an early dinner in Greenhills. Aside from the chirashi don we also ordered 3 kinds of sushi: Dynamite roll, American dream and Black angel. The sashimi were okay for me it has a generous amount of uni which is a plus for us. I give this 3 stars out of 5.

2. Ginza Kuroson at Roberston Quay- Sgd 23.30 (tax included)
 Wanted to explore more of Robertson Quay since it will be our future home (right M and B?). I saw some great reviews about the Chirashi don at Ginza Kuroson so I gave it a try. I was served with salad with super yummy dressing together with miso soup. Then came my bowl which was filled with different kinds of seafood which i dont know what are the names are but it all tasted really good to the point that I dont have to dip them in the soy sauce and wasabi. The dessert was some kind of blueberry pudding which was divine.This set is only available during lunch. I will give this a 4.5 out of 5.

3.Yakitori Emmaru at Ion

I was in Ion doing some last minute shopping for my brother who wanted some Nespresso capsules. I was looking for anything Japanese so i ended up at Yakitori Emmaru which from its name suggests that it is a Yakitori place. They did not have the Chirashi don so i opted for this dish that is quite close to what I was craving for. The salmon sashimi was really fresh and so was the uni sushi (the best i tasted so far) it melts in your mouth.I will give the salmon/roe don a 4 out of 5.Sgd 21.30

4.Sangokai at Beach Road
It was our TGEF (thank god its early friday) so my colleagues and I decided to have dinner first before going to Attica. I love their version since it included 2 kinds of tuna: the normal maguro and yellow fin tuna, squid, shrimp and salmon. I will give this one 3.5 stars out of 5.

Prawning Adventure!

Having run out of activities to do, Marie suggested that we go prawning at Punggol. The idea came from a colleague of hers, as prawning is a pastime among Singaporeans. And so the three of us went prawn fishing on a Saturday afternoon, thinking that we'd catch enough prawns to enjoy a nice, barbecued dinner. I read somewhere that Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, only eats food that he has hunted for himself. This is because he wants to be reminded that a living creature had to die in order for him to live. We were all inspired by this so we carried on with the challenge!

The prawning rate ranges from SGD 15-30 for 1-3 hours of prawn fishing time. We took the 2-hour package with the rod and earthworm bait provided. Their friendly Filipino staff helped us with the cutting and hooking of the bait. We were officially in business (of fishing prawns)!

We caught a total of 8 prawns after 2 hours of prawning. That was pathetic by prawning standards so much so that the staff there took pity on us and gave us a prawn which he'd caught. Ilene caught the most prawns followed by Marie, then myself. We decided to just take our sad prawns home and cook it some other time.

Did you know that prawns have pincers? We were surprised to find them on some of the (few) prawns that we have caught. Their blasted pincer were in the way while removing the hook but we were able to outsmart the prawn by pinning its pincers down with our trusty slipper!

EWF: Lamb Burger

Stopped over for dinner before meeting B :) alone time mode!

Decided to try Everything With Fries which is located at Orchard Central Mall. Same people who own Awfully Chocolate - so they serve their cupcakes here too!

Didn't order the meal (which has the fries) though haha I got myself their lamb burger :) it's 6.90 SGD for the sandwich. Very affordable if you ask me.

I give this place two thumbs up!! The burger was very juicy - cooked medium / medium rare. You can really taste the lamb flavor which I loooove!!

I'm a condiments type of girl so I had to eventually put my ketchup and mustard. Surprisingly the ketchup brought out the lamb flavor more!

And when you get to the middle, there's this block of cheese which is a lovely surprise to the palate.

Can't wait to try their other burgers next time! Woot!!

Tanjong Katong part 1

Since I have a Korean sister in law, she has introduced me to her rich and colorful culture but the most important aspect that she shared to me was of course Korean food. I love it when she cooks for us especially those non-mainstream dishes like the japchae, bulgogi and bibimbap.
Aside from her home cooked meals, she also cooks instant noodles for us! For the first two noodles, we like to add egg so that the soup wont be too spicy. The 3rd noodle is like pancit canton version but with black bean sauce. This is my favorite among the three!

So when we went to Tanjong Katong, a friend suggested to try the Korean restaurant there and so we did! The place is called Full House Korean Restaurant (Yes I believe it is named after the popular korean drama) I love the appetizers that they serve but the most important part of it is..it's a buffet!)

I ordered a non-instant black bean noodle. It was really delicious, the noodle was very chewy if im not mistaken it is made from potato starch. I was not able to take photos of Marie's bibimbap @$13 and Bernice's Jjol-Men @$13

When Boredom Strikes - Makeup to the Rescue

Every once in a while, there's not much to do here in Singapore. And sometimes we're just too lazy to go out of the house.

Sooo...to cure our boredom, we color...our faces! (This is also mainly influenced by Bernice who is a Makeup Addict - seriously, this girl has more than 30 lipsticks, tons of makeup brushes and watches youtube makeup videos almost everyday. Amazing!)

Here are some of the experiments we've done so far:

ILENE | Very simple and beachy makeup

I did this! Woot! Notice her thicker brow. Can't see it much here but Ilene had bronzer too. Her "photoshoot" got cut short though, she had a panic attack because of some work related sh*t haha

MARIE | Queen of Hearts-ish

Bernice showed us this video copying the queen's makeup - here's what happened. They glued my bows so to cover it better with concealer (not so successful). Raised my brows, put a fake mole, and lipstick in a heart shape.

VOLDEMORT (He who shall not be named. P.S. I seriously still don't think you'll keep your anonymity with this idea haha) | Two Faced

We tried to do a split makeup for Voldemort - good girl on one side, taray look on the other.

BERNICE | Just plain evil

Goal here was to look like a crazy evil character - like an evil step mom in a Disney movie. Eyes were the emphasis, real thick shadow and pointed upwards bringing the cat eye to the next level.

Oh, i forgot to mention the nose haha a bit over the top but hey, kudos to the nose bridge effect.

Our second attempt at hiding the eyebrows and I think we finally succeeded. This makeup is just plain CRAZY yet achieved the purpose of making her look like a drag queen. Lashes, shadow, plumped up lips...exaggeration is the key word here.

So, when you're bored...grab a brush and paint yourself like crazy!! Can't wait for more craazzzyyy experiments ;)

Drinks and More: Part 1

Time to revive our blog again!

Been 4 months so it will be very difficult to recap everything that had happened.

This one will be all about the places where you can get alcohol and fun!

Disclaimer: Singapore is not the right place if you want to get a hang over - unless you've got cash to spare.

1) Filter Members Club

Went with Ilene, Bernice and Karen that night. That night we got free drinks from friends so can't really tell how much was the damage. But what's nice about this place is that the crowd is nice - "filtered" in a sense. Although some girls act like they're drunk to get attention - very annoying.



2) Lantern Bar
Rooftop Bar at The Fullerton Bay Hotel, Singapore

Three nights of bar hopping with the girls, this is the second night after Filter. Went to Lantern Bar where you get to have the most wonderful view of the city.


I ordered their mojito, which was quite nice. Bernice got the Rose. One drink costs around 20sgd++. But we met some pinoy waiters who got us another round for free! Thanks Jose and Rizal (seriously, that's their names!)


3) Attica Bar
Clark Quay, Singapore

The night of over the top makeup and more - LIPS LASHES and SHADOWS Galore!



It was our Girls' Night Out - with some dancing. Went to Attica Bar after going around Clark Quay. Can't even remember why we chose this place but maybe because we got in for free haha

This bar had different sections, one for hiphop, one for trance/house. The crowd wasn't that nice though. One of us even had a moment with a Korean looking guy and some ass touching - I won't mention who that girl is hahaha



4) Does Your Mother Know
41 Neil Road, Singapore

Love them gays - and this is one of their spots. Does Your Mother Know (witty name for a bar) is a chill place if you just want to chat and drink. Beer costs around 15sgd.


5) Soul
331 North Bridge Road, Odeon Towers, Singapore


Probably the worst club we've been to here in Singapore. At 1am - there's no one there! Literally we were just around 15 people in that club that night hahaha I don't know if this is how it is there every night but man was that club lonely. They've got 5sgd beers though - so that's our consolation.

6) Pump Room
Clark Quay, Singapore

Beers and A Band - lovely combination. They perform new songs from Bruno mars to some reggae music from the olden days. Nice place to hang if you want to chill after a busy day from work and some light dancing on the side :)



Will continue this list some other day - just realizing i had my share of booze while I was here haha

Hello Universal Studios!

This was a random-impulse-sporadic trip to universal! We went straight to the roller coasters since we both are fans of thrill rides! But before we can ride the coaster we have to deposit our things in their high-tech locker system!
